This painting was created to show the spiritual world of the Yurok people. They strongly believed in balancing the world, and taking care of the world around them. They have different ceremonies that is still practiced today with the intention to maintain the natural world and to ensure a continuation of the earth’s resources. A huge important role in the balance is the medicine that is used in traditional ceremonies. The Yurok people have medicine women that are believed to have the power to cure diseases. This was believed that only certain women were given these gifts. This spiritual medicine was invoked through traditional ceremonies, medicine songs, and through prayer.
