This painting was created to show the beauty and elegance of a Yurok woman. This woman is supposed to represent at the time of sunrise when the traditional brush dance ceremony is ending. A brush dance is a ceremony that is still practiced today by the Yurok people to heal a sick child or to pray for a long and healthy life for the child. The ceremony lasts all night long on Saturday carrying into Sunday morning before the sun rises above the hills. The overall belief of Yurok people is that you go to the dance with a good heart and with good thoughts and prayers. She is a resemblance of peace and balance.
